AROUND THE WORLD
A musical world journey in grandpa's memories
“I think Grandpa has fallen asleep,” Malene whispers as she carefully moves into the attic. With a light in her eyes, she approaches the globe and Grandpa’s old suitcase, which she immediately goes exploring in. Grandpa has traveled all over the world and brought home souvenirs from his many adventures – souvenirs that can each open a story that unfolds through words, songs and music. Why does Hawaii look like a giant chocolate cake? How can a lotus flower fulfill your innermost desires? And why do they throw colors in India?
Maybe you’ll get an answer – maybe you’ll find out something completely different. For the performance, the participating children help explore the contents of the suitcase and thus determine how the performance takes shape, and which of the 15 countries the tour goes to.
As soon as the destination is chosen, the imagination is ignited, and the story unfolds in a whirlwind of storytelling, wild games and songs, gossiping soloists, dancing along the rows of chairs and much more…
With the performance Around the World, Malene Kjærgård wants to strengthen children’s acceptance of and respect for other people, regardless of their cultural background. The performance is intended to function as a conversation starter and inspire children to tell each other about their cultural background, and the events and traditions that are important to them.
