FOOLS’ PARADISE
Inspired by the art of Michael Kvium
Inspired by a deep artistic conversation with both the grotesque universe and Michael Kvium himself, the award-winning stage director, Giacomo Ravicchio, brings the characters to life and creates a skin-toningly honest and tragicomic caricature of a society where deeply lonely people haughtily carry themselves forward with selfishness, self-staging, greed, and lust for power. Like the works of art, this performance also resembles life itself. Helped by laughter, we can freely reflect on the exaggerated creatures and their absurd actions, recognize ourselves and each other in them and understand how their anger and malice hide lostness and fear of being overlooked and pushed out of the community. Fools’ Paradise is a new co-production between Meridiano Teatret, Operaen i Midten and ZeBU.

WHO’S THE FOOL?
ZeBU’s newest civic scene format Who’s the fool? was created in connection with the performance Fools’ Paradise. In collaboration with the production company Amfora Film, the theater education department together with 83 students from Amager have explored the fool, both the fool they can recognize from films and literature, and the fool who may live inside themselves. Because who is really the fool in our time?
In addition to a special exhibition with portraits of the young people in the foyer, as well as a sound work made by students, the project has resulted in a brave video work in collaboration with an 8th grade from the School in Amagerbro, which you can see here.

“MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH MICHAEL KVIUM’S ART HAPPENED IN FRONT OF AN EXHIBITION POSTER ON THE STREETS OF HORSENS ON A RANDOM DAY ALMOST 30 YEARS AGO, SHORTLY AFTER I HAD JUST MOVED TO DENMARK FROM ITALY.”
